Carta e vídeo!

Oi galera!

Host Family Letter:

Dear Host Family,

My name is Karen, I'm 24 years old and I live with my grandmother and one of my brothers in São Paulo. I'm the oldest of three siblings.
My parents divorced when my brother and I were children and my father got our custody. At that time my grandma was already living with us. My mother moved to another neighborhood, but she remained close to us. After some years my father got married again and the apartment where he and my stepmother used to live became was too small, so we moved in with my grandma. Soon my stepmother became pregnant and my first direct contact with a kid began. When my brother was born, my love for children grew up.

I love kids! I love knowing that I can help them and be important in their growth and development, I love teaching them things they will use throughout their lives. I always try to give them my best. I'm a person who values simple things in life. Small moments close to people I like make me happy. I always try to find positive aspects on things and I try to pass this optimism to everyone around me. I think it is a thought that the kids make me have, because they are honest creatures that don't see evil. I love nature, animals, music and books. I like walking, swimming, writing and singing. I also like tattoos and I have some. I hope it is not a problem to you. I am a quiet and easygoing girl, a little bit shy, focused on my duties and goals, really responsible and adaptable. I got my driver's license in 2006, but just this year I'm driving frequently because I didn't have a car before. But I can say that I drive well.

My first experience taking care of kids was in last December when I started looking after my friend's son Enzo, an awesome and very smart boy. He was 3.9 years old. I used to take care of him during the week, all day long while my friend was working. My duties were feeding (but I didn't prepare his food), bathing, and playing with him. I also washed his clothes. I used educational toys to develop his learning and I took him out to a park or square around the neighborhood. I stopped taking care of him when his classes started and my friend didn't need me more.

Now I do voluntary work at two different places: a day care center and an association that helps needy children by giving them tuition. In the day care center I work once or twice a week in the afternoon. There I help two teachers in the classroom singing, reading stories and playing with the kids. I also change their nappy and clothes, feed them, put them to bed and I'm always watching them to avoid accidents. There are around 20 kids in each classroom that are divided according to their age. They are between 0 and 3 years old. They are awesome!
In the association I work four times a week in the morning, helping a teacher with 20 kids between 7 and 12 years old. I help her explaining the activities to them and clearing up doubts. We teach them subjects like Portuguese, Math, Geography and Science. We also teach them handicrafts and good manners. They have breakfast before the class and lunch after it. They are very energetic kids.

I have some friends that I like a lot. With them I like going out, going to the movies, to the park, to concerts of our favorites artists and also travelling. As well as my family they support my decision of being an au pair. My mother has even bough a computer and learned to use the internet to communicate with me! My father, who used to encourage me the most, passed away this year (August), but I know that from Heaven he's cheering for me.

I'm looking for a family, who supports me and who cares about me, a family that loves their kids, that teaches them respect for others, that supports them on their decisions and dreams. A family who I can have a very good relationship with, who I can share my ideas and culture, and who can do the same with me. I hope living very good moments with you, and I hope we can become friends.

I chose this exchange because I love children and I feel comfortable with them, I love travelling and I would enjoy getting to know different people and culture. I love challenges and I believe this one will be a great experience on my personal and professional life. I also want to improve my English and to make new friends.

Well, thank you for reading my letter. I hope you liked it. I'm waiting for your contact. Feel comfortable to make me any questions, I'm ready to answer them.

Kind Regards,
Karen
